The Livestock and Dairy Development and Poultry Research Institute has approved a project to distribute 3.5 million chickens across the province by June next year.
The chickens would be distributed under the Prime Minister’s Poultry Breeding Programme.
The distribution of the birds to applicants would begin in August.
The project for upgrading veterinary hospitals and laboratories in nine divisions of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan has also been approved.
The officials said Punjab Poultry Research Centre has started breeding chicks in 12 big poultry farms across Punjab.
The big-scale government-run poultry farms have been set up in Rawalpindi, Attock, Dina, Jhelum, Gujarat, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar.
