Overseas medical students unhappy with new admission policy

Say commission increased fee for students and those holding dual nationality

ISLAMABAD:

The overseas Pakistani medical students are dissatisfied with the new admission policy of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

The overseas students said that the new admission policy has disappointed students residing in Gulf countries, who return home to pursue medical education. They added that the commission has increased the fee for overseas students and those holding dual nationality in the new admission policy.

Rana Anwar Ali, a Pakistani living in Qatar, told The Express Tribune that the children of Pakistanis, who work abroad and send home valuable foreign exchange, are facing discrimination compared to local students in private medical colleges.

He added that the people who live in Gulf countries do not have the same educational facilities and opportunities as dual nationals or international students living in other parts of the world.

PMC Vice-President Ali Raza told The Express Tribune that the admission process for medical students, be they local or overseas, is financially identical.

He added that the admission fees and merit criteria for different private medical colleges in Pakistan were different.
