There is a need to educate students about the latest technological trends in order to meet requirements of the fourth industrial revolution, said President Dr Arif Alvi.
Speaking at a briefing delivered by LUMS Rector Shahid Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday, he called for promoting research-oriented and innovation-based quality education in universities to overcome the scientific and technological challenges faced by the country.
The president underlined the need for the promotion of online education, terming it cost-effective and accessible for students belonging to far-flung areas and under-privileged sections of society.
He urged the universities to initiate steps to encourage e-learning as it played an instrumental role in ensuring continuity of education during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He highlighted the need for increased collaboration among the universities to share their expertise for promoting quality education based on research and innovation.
The president asked HEC to adopt a cooperative approach and enhance communication with the universities to help address their issues.
