KARACHI:

The federal government will continue to carry out development works in the city of lights, said Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar on Sunday.

Umar, flanked by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member of Sindh Assembly Khurram Sher Zaman and other PTI leaders, was visiting different areas of the metropolis to inquire about different issues being faced by residents. Speaking to the media, Umar said that the PTI-led coalition government in the Centre was working on the ground to restore Karachi to its former glory.

"It is unbearable for Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah that the federal government is carrying out development works in streets and thoroughfares of Karachi," he said, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government had completely neglected the megacity as no development work was carried out in decades.

Sindh is a part of the country and its people deserve for public funds to be spent on their welfare.

According to Umar, locals are satisfied with the performance of the federal government and they can see that it is taking a keen interest in the development and progress of Karachi.

Umar was on a motorcycle as he and other party leaders visited Burns Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar to inspect the progress of federally-funded development projects, including sports grounds and road repair work.

Speaking on the occasion, Zaman alleged that in the past legislators would take commissions and bribes from contractors but things are different now.

He added that traders were also taken on board for the development projects
