KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor and investigation officer (IO) over pleas challenging the inquiries against Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and others.

The two-member bench of justices Yousuf Ali Sayeed and Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry heard the petition. The petitioners' counsels maintained that NAB issued call up notices to other co-accused for investigations in the reference against Durrani.

Claiming two separate inquiries cannot be conducted on the same allegations, the counsels moved the court to cancel the call-up notices issued to Zulfiqar Ali Dahar and Shamshad Khatoon. The SHC issued notices to the NAB prosecutor and IO, seeking their replies.

Citizen's detention

The same bench issued notices to the Sindh home secretary and other authorities over a plea against the alleged detention of a citizen from Surjani Town.

The missing person's wife, Khanzaadi, informed the court that some individuals arrived with three police mobile vans eight days ago and detained her husband, Maroof Ali Solangi, while confiscating their car, motorcycles and other valuables.

She claimed the captors were demanding Rs1.5m for Solangi's release. She alleged the police provided patronage to the influential personalities involved in the detention. The court issued notices to the home secretary, Sindh inspector general of police, SSP West and relevant SHOs, seeking their replies.
