Taylor Swift to star with Christian Bale, Margot Robbie

The film will star Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert De Niro among others

Renowned singer Taylor Swift will be back on the big screen with David O. Russell’s next film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The film will star Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington, with a massive cast that also includes Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Robert De Niro, Michael Shannon and Timothy Olyphant.

The New Regency project will mark Russell’s first time in the director’s chair since 2015’s Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence. He will be directing his own script, which will be co-produced with Matthew Budman. Details of the plot are being kept under wraps, while the film has completed production in Los Angeles. 20th Century Studios is set to release the project but a release date has not been finalised yet.

The film marks Swift’s first onscreen appearance since 2019’s Universal adaption of the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical Cats. The disastrous screen version — co-starring Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo — saw Swift portray the striking and sassy feline named Bombalurina. She also co-wrote the song Beautiful Ghosts, which marked one of the few memorable moments of the entire production.

The Folklore singer’s acting credits also include Garry Marshall’s Valentine’s Day and the adaptation of the young adult classic The Giver, starring Meryl Streep, along with a voice role in the animated Dr. Seuss movie The Lorax. Netflix documentary Miss Americana also revolved around Swift, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

More recently, the Blank Space hitmaker won album of the year at the Grammys for Folklore, which became the highest-selling album of 2020. Disney+ later released an accompanying documentary concert film Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions.
