Teen ‘gang-raped’ by five in DI Khan

A 16-year-old was gang raped by five people who also made a video of the outrageous act and released it on social media in DI Khan district of Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P). Talking to The Express Tribune about the incident District Police Officer (DPO) DI Khan Najumul Husnain confirmed that the incident happened during the holy month of Ramazan in Kari Shamozai area.

“The crime took place in Ramazan in which five accused raped a 16-year-old boy and in order to make him an example also uploaded the video of the shameful act on social media. When it started making rounds on social media platform, police was informed about it by the father of the victim and an FIR has been registered against the five accused,” he said. He added that all the five had been identified with the help of the video and police were trying its level best to arrest them.

Local residents told The Express Tribune that all the five accused had escaped to Karachi after committing the crime and they were not in the area. On the other hand Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has taken notice of the incident and directed police to arrest the culprits involved and produce them before the court with all the proof to make them an example for other criminals. He assured the victim family that strict action will be taken against those involved.

Talking to The Express Tribune rights activist Imran Takkar said that the incident was an unfortunate one. “Children and women are the most vulnerable segments of our society and crimes against them are increasing with each passing day without inviting any attention,” he said, adding that parents don’t understand the importance of educating their children about sex crimes and child predators and due to this such incidents are happening on a very large scale.

“It is unfortunate that the crime took place in Ramazan but it was reported to police a month later which is yet another evidence that victims try to hide such crimes to save their honour,” he said.
