Football: Busquets, Pique in doubt for Super Cup

MADRID: Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets are in doubt for the first leg of the Spanish Super cup against Real Madrid on Sunday. The Spanish club confirmed that the pair picked up injuries during Spain’s friendly against Italy on Wednesday. Pique limped off the pitch clutching the back of his thigh near the end of the first half, while his replacement Busquets suffered a bruised rib on his right side. Barcelona later said in a statement posted on its website that Pique had possibly strained a hamstring in his right leg, and that the evolution of his injury would determine his availability for Sunday’s match. The second leg of the Spanish Super cup is scheduled to be played at Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium on August 1st.
