ISLAMABAD:

Unidentified masked men broke into an office of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son in London “with an intention of attacking the latter,” PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday.

“It is highly reprehensible, shameful and alarming that goons forcibly entered Hassan Nawaz's office in London with the intention of attacking him. Thank God that Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif remained safe in the attack,” Shehbaz said in a statement.

Shehbaz, who is the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, said it was a matter of concern that armed assailants tried to carry out a “vicious attack” on the PML-N supremo who has been in London since November 2019 for purported medical treatment.

“The London Police and the authorities concerned should hold a thorough investigation into the incident and punish the culprits as per the law,” he demanded.

The PML-N president also instructed the party’s London chapter to investigate the matter.

Without naming anyone, Nawaz’s daughter and PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz said in a tweet: “Resorting to gross Criminality in the face of political frustration and defeat. People’s voice will not be silenced by low life 3rd rate criminals..”

“Nawaz Sharif is the voice of the people of Pakistan and will not be silenced, Insha’Allah. May Allah protect you Nawaz Sharif,” she added.

In another tweet, she claimed those who “jeopardised” his father’s life while he was in detention in Pakistan are behind the attack.

PML-N leader Nasir Butt, who is residing in London, told The Express Tribune that Nawaz was present in the office when four men entered the office and falsely claimed that they were Pakistani national.

He said the masked men fled the office after the police were called and added that video of the suspects had been provided to the authorities.
