KARACHI:

Posing as a couple, one riding the bike, with a burqa clad accomplice on the pillion, a duo of motorcycle thieves was caught by the Steel Town Police on Sunday.

The police allegedly recovered a pistol, stolen motorcycle, and forged registration documents from the suspects.

According to the Steel Town Police, a squad manning a mobile checkpoint stopped a couple heading towards city limits on the National Highway. The cops checked the papers of the two-wheeler but found the burqa clad pillion rider suspicious asked the riders to show their computerised national identity cards.

That made the person in burqa even more uneasy, after which the police asked for a show of face and found a man behind the veil.

The suspects, Sabir and Irfan Ali, told the police that they used to steal motorbikes from Karachi and sell the two wheelers in villages and far flung areas. Masquerading as a lady in burqa on the pillion helped them slip away from a number of checkpoints in the past, they said.

Police have registered a case and started investigations.
