Freed: British citizen rescued from husband’s captivity

LAHORE:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), with the help of local police officials, has recovered a British citizen and her two children from Shorkot cantt area, The Express Tribune learnt on Thursday.

The mother, along with her children, was being forcibly detained by her husband Muhammad Iqbal Khan, also a British national. About two months ago, Zahida Iqbal came to Pakistan along with family to transfer property. Muhammad Iqbal wanted the property to be transferred to their child while Zahida wanted it to be filed in her name. The dispute worsened and Muhammed Iqbal Khan illegally detained his wife against her will.

Zahida contacted the British government later on as well as the high commission in Islamabad, after which they requested the ministry of interior to recover her.

@Mirza:

Actually he should be deported to the UK where he would recieve the appropriate punishment. The question of not allowing him does not arise he is a british national. the way things stand right now he'll probably sip in a few months down the road and no one will even notice.

If only such action was taken when it has to do with out local women.. just shows how poorly our system responds to these things, government just talks about uplifting women, but everyone knows this is a farce and women of all ages and even classes, are still suffering all over Pakistan! Shame on us and our mediocrity.. :/
