Seven cops booked over alleged custodial death

Victim was arrested and tortured by policemen of Chowki Bhaiwala

DIJKOT:

Millat Town police have registered a case against seven police personnel, including a former post in-charge, constables, and a private man in connection with the death of a man after he set himself on fire at a petrol pump outside Bhai Wala two and a half months ago.

Sources said in the case filed by Tahir Tanveer, a resident of Chak No 202 RB Bhaiwala, it has been stated that on the night of February 7, his son Shaan Haider was arrested and tortured by the employees of Chowki Bhaiwala. Tanveer said, “They poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

As a result, 65% of my son's body was burned. We rushed him to Allied Hospital and later to DHQ Hospital through Rescue 1122 where my son died on March 21 after a life-and-death struggle.”

A request regarding police personnel and private person has been submitted to the CPO who conducted an inquiry in which chowki in-charge Rana Ahad Hussain, Hawaldar Bashir, Constable Mohammad Yousuf, Mohammad Akbar, Fazal Abbas, Mohammad Azhar Amir and private person Mohammad Sufyan were found guilty.
