KARACHI:

Unidentified men opened fire on the house of former chief justice of Pakistan Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqi's son in Khayaban-e-Rahat, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Tuesday night and fled.

Police collected empty bullet shells, along with other evidence from the site.

Siddiqi's son, Afnan Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqi, told the media that he was dropped to the house by friends moments before the attack. Afnan added that fortunately, he had entered the residence and his driver was entering when they heard two gunshots.

Afnan said his driver fell to the ground and suffered minor injuries due to the fall. He continued that policeman, deployed for his security, opened fire at the assailants and their action caused the gunmen to flee.

According to Afnan, his family had been allotted a 3.5 acre plot in 76 Town, Islamabad, after his father's demise. The former CJ's son alleged that his mother and he were attacked by a man named Irfanullah Kundi when they visited the plot in 2018. He added the family barely managed to escape with their lives and reached the police station to report the incident.

Afnan said Kundi used to call his mother on the phone and demand they hand over their property in Karachi and Islamabad for as much money as he offers or else he would kill them. Afnan said he was returning home after meeting South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Javed Akbar Riaz at 11:25pm March 29, 2021, when Kundi called him.

Kundi reportedly threatened him again, saying that since Afnan's mother had passed away, he should give the property or else he would lose his life.

Afnan added Kundi's nephews live near his house in DHA and often open fire at the residence.

South SSP Zubair Nazeer told the media that there was only one assailant who was riding a motorcycle. He further stated that Afnan had nominated a man as the accused in the written complaint.
