The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and University of Balochistan (UoB) will make joint efforts to promote education in the province. This was agreed upon between the vice chancellors of the two universities in a meeting the other day.
AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Ziaul Qayyum called on Dr Shafiqur Rehman, vice chancellor of the University of Balochistan, and discussed matters relating to the promotion of education in Balochistan and eradication of illiteracy from the province.
Dr Qayyum briefed UoB VC on various initiatives taken recently to extend its educational network to the remotest areas of Balochistan so that no one is deprived of education.
He said that he has recently held meetings with elders of various areas and explored the possibilities of establishing regional centres there. He added that AIOU has initiated the project of constructing its own uniquely customised buildings, especially in Kalat, which would be equipped with modern technology.
Dr Rehman commended the role of AIOU in the promotion of education in the country in general and in Balochistan in particular.
