According to the police report, SubInspector Shaukat Ali stated that 29-year-old Muhammad Hasnain Iqbal, a resident of Chak No. 503 GB, was married to Sana Bibi, a resident of the same village. A few days ago, Sana Bibi took divorce and was living at her parents’ house. Now her family married her off to someone else. According to sources, Abira Parveen, 18-year-old daughter of Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of Chak No. 115 GB, a village on Juranwala Road, got married with a boy of the village a month ago without the consent of her parents. Around fifteen days ago, she got divorced due to domestic violence and came to her parents’ house. She was allegedly being taunted upon which she got frustrated, as a result of which she jumped into the Gogira branch in the morning. Seeing her shoes lying on the bank of the canal, passers-by informed Rescue 1122. According to Rescue 1122 sources, the girl jumped into the canal due to family members’ taunts. A letter has been found from her house in which she apologised to her parents. “I am jumping into the canal to be punished for my mistakes,” she reportedly wrote.
