‘Joint efforts needed to revitalise post Covid-19 Islamic World’

Former PM described the pandemic as biggest challenge world has faced since the end of WW2

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) organised a webinar titled ‘Reconceiving post-Covid-19 Islamic World’.

ICESCO has continued to underscore the importance of anticipating and discussing the challenges the Islamic world will face after Covid-19 and the need to expand the scope of cooperation and joint projects to find solutions and confront the effects of the pandemic, said a press release.

ICESCO Director-General Dr Salim Al Malik welcomed the Guest of Honour, former prime minister and Senate leader of opposition Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. Dr Salim appreciated Gilani's recommendations for closer and deeper cooperation in the Islamic world.

In his remarks, Gilani indicated that the Covid-19 pandemic is not only a health crisis. "It has also impacted the social and economic lives of people around the world."

The former prime minister described the pandemic as the biggest challenge the world has faced since the end of the Second World War. “We can only succeed in checking the effects of the pandemic on the Islamic world through cooperation and concerted efforts because strengthening international cooperation mechanisms will enable a return to some degree of normality.”

Other speakers who participated from around the world in the webinar included Prof John Esposito, Prof Mike Hardy, Prof Chris Alden, Prof Mustafa Izzuddin, Dr Michael Berry, Vice-Chancellor of Quaid-i-AzamUniversity Dr Muhammad Ali, Prof Yahya Kamalipour and Prof Fang Zhaohui.
