KARACHI:

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast high temperatures in Karachi over the next two days..

According to the weather advisory issued by the PMD, the temperature in the port city might reach 38C to 40C on March 30 and March 31.

“Hot desert winds from Balochistan are likely to blow over the city between morning and noon during the two days, and southwesterly winds are expected to resume during the evening hours,” the meteorological department said.

However, due to moderate humidity, a heatwave is unlikely to occur, the PMD added.

Earlier, the PMD forecast an increase in Karachi's temperature by four to six degrees above the average recorded temperature for this time of the year.

"The reason for the unexpected heat is a change in the wind direction due to the departure of the western system" explained PMD chief Sardar Sarfaraz.

During the previous heatwave in October 2020, the PMD urged the authorities concerned to take necessary measures and advised people to take precautions and avoid to open sun exposure during peak heat hours – 11am to 4pm.
