DERA GHAZI KHAN:

The building of the Dera Ghazi Khan Medical College, which was completed seven years ago, has not yet been officially handed over to its administration.

Letters were written to the building department in this regard by the principal several times.

As compared to the PC-1, the building still lacks several facilities. A committee has been set up to hand over the building after an assessment.

According to officials, classes were started in the incomplete building of Dera Ghazi Khan Medical College in 2013 due to government pressure. The contractor also continued the construction work in phases and allegedly received payments with the connivance of the building department.

However, despite the passage of seven years, the required facilities including gas supply, fire extinguishers, laundry, incinerators, doctors’ colony and other structures could not be completed.

Meetings have been held with the officers of the department three times in the last few weeks but the defects of the building have not been rectified yet and it could not be handed over officially.

A contract for the construction of the college at a cost of Rs2 billion was awarded by the PML-N government in 2013.

When contacted, Principal Dr Asif Qureshi said a committee headed by Associate Prof Abdul Rehman Khokhar had been formed for monitoring the building work, checking each department in accordance with the PC-1 and preparing a report about deficient facilities.
