KARACHI:

Opposition leader Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Shaikh was released from jail, on Saturday, after a special anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued his release orders.

Upon his release, Haleem accused the Sindh chief minister of conniving in the terrorism cases lodged against him. He further announced the creation of a cell at his assembly office, set to raise issues of the province.

Claiming Sindh police's involvement in criminal activities, he said a Rs1.5 billion drug inquiry, against SHO Mirpurkhaas was handed over to an SSP in the same district.

The released politician also accused the Karachi police of resorting to drug dealing in the city.

In addition, Haleem alleged double standards at the election commission. I was arrested while goons of the PPP were left free during the Ghotki election, he said.

After being relased, Haleem thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan and PTI workers for their support.

Jail officials at Karachi Central Jail refused to release opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh on Friday, a day after the Sindh High Court granted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader bail in two cases pertaining to terrorism and rioting.

The jail officials maintained that they had received incomplete release orders.

According to them, the order issued by the Ghotki court did not have the judge's signature and seal, while the one issued by a Karachi court had a wrong section mentioned in it.

Haleem is facing trial in two cases in the anti-terrorism court and the proceedings of two other cases against him are under way in Malir and Ghotki courts.

He has been granted bail in all four cases.
