Resham responds to criticism on winning Pride of Performance
This week, the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, conferred civil honours on prominent personalities including foreign nationals for their services in different fields involving medicine, education, social services, and fine arts, and for showing gallantry in the war against terrorism as well as during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Among artists, celebrated star Resham was awarded Pride of Performance. The actor, among her peers, accepted the award by the President at President house in the Federal capital. After she shared pictures from the ceremony, the 90s star received flak over how she didn't really deserve the award.
Resham shared with The Express Tribune how the honour didn't go down too well with some of the leading names of the industry, "Perhaps I don’t deserve any awards or accolades. However, the point to ponder is; do great and senior actors globally give such demeaning remarks towards their juniors?"
She went on to add, "Remarks that belittle and undermine years of struggles and hard work of another actor especially their juniors? Big actors, in their true sense, have big hearts."
Perhaps responding to veteran actor Sakina Samo's recent criticism of winning the civil award, Resham concluded by saying, "May God bless her with more awards, but she should reflect upon the fact that but when someone tries to put someone else down, it shows their own caliber and character, not the other person’s."
Earlier, while speaking about her achievement, Resham told the publication, “Recognition doesn't see your gender so no one can stop anyone from climbing the ladder of success and fame. I am grateful for my Pride of Performance, and it won’t be wrong to say that I have worked tirelessly to serve my country.”
