ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Information Senator Shibli Faraz on Saturday observed that fixing the support price of wheat at Rs1,800 per maund and the announcement of subsidy for low-priced flour is a clear proof of Prime Minister Imran Khan Khan’s farmer-friendly policies.

He said the provincial and federal governments of the PTI-led government were committed to providing wheat to the common man at a reduced price. “The development of the country and promotion of agriculture sector is linked with the welfare of the farmers.

The premier’s mission is the welfare of peasants and their progress,” he said. Shibli pointed out that despite the rise in the support price of wheat its rates will not increase and added that the government was giving subsidy on the commodity to benefit the consumers. He noted that the federal and provincial governments will ensure that half of their strategic reserves (five million tonnes) are made through the imported wheat.

“When the government will import wheat to meet half of the strategic needs it will have less impact on the domestic availability [of the commodity].” Shibli vowed that the government will take steps to stop the hoarding of the commodity.
