QAU teachers protest ‘unfair’ promotions
Senior teachers of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) have expressed indignation about being ignored in job promotion.
Over 20 senior teachers of QAU have written a letter to VC Dr Muhammad Ali Shah against what they said was errant promotion bypassing seniors. The teachers expressed concerns about the seniority list issued in February 2021 and demanded him to present a rectified list in the syndicate’s meeting.
It stated that the experience of various teachers was not included before the list’s approval from the university syndicate.
The teachers maintained that the communicated verbally and in writing that it was mandatory to have at least six years’ experience for promotion in TTS of an associate professor. Tenure Track System (TTS) was introduced by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) in 2002.
However, the condition was widely violated in the seniority list and only a limited number of educators have been included in the list as per the policy of HEC.
It is an exploitation of the educators who waited for gaining the required experience for promotion, the letter maintained. The senior faculty members said that agility shown in the date of the selection board and in seeking HEC’s approval had cast doubts on the seniority list.
