Man ‘defrauds people for anti-graft jobs’

Suspect arrested, hunt for accomplices under way

Police have arrested a man suspected to receiving bribe from people seeking employment in the anti-corruption department.

The suspect was allegedly caught collecting money from a citizen for recruiting a sub-inspector in the department.

According to preliminary reports, the local anti-corruption police station has registered a case against the suspect and started searching for his accomplices.

The case was filed by one Shoaib Dildar in the police station, which alleges that Malik Qamar Latif, a resident of Chak No. 209 RB Jaranwala Road used to visit his village and introduced himself as an employee of Anti-Corruption Establishment, Lahore.

According to the complainant, Latif said that there were vacancies for the post of sub-inspector in the anti-corruption department. “I have good contacts with the officers. If you want a job, pay Rs200,000 and you will get the job,” he allegedly claimed.

Dildar narrated, “I was convinced by Malik Qamar Latif and gave him Rs70,000. He took my documents and courier fee from me the next day and a few days later he gave me an order No. 121 / ACEP dated February 11.

He ask me to appear in the Director General Anti-Corruption Office in Lahore after an interview on April 28 and join the duty. When I went to the office in Lahore on March 10, I found out that there was no such job.”

He added that he contacted the suspect Malik Qamar Latif, after which he started giving excuses.

Investigators said the suspect had formed an organised gang along with government officials who used the names and positions of government officials to deceive citizens and issue fake call and appointment letters.

On the direction of Director Anti-Corruption Faisalabad Region Arjumand Zia, Sub-Inspector Shahid Sarwar Alvi, after registering the case, conducted raids in different areas to arrest Latif, seized fake call letters and courier receipts from his possession and started looking for his accomplices.

Incidents of arrests over fake identity have been reported frequently across the province.

On February 20, a man claiming to be a lawyer was arrested in Multan. He was found wandering on the premises of district courts.

Members of legal fraternity caught the fake lawyer from the premises of district courts and reported the matter to Multan police for registering an FIR against him. District Bar Association President Abdul Qayyum Dasti said a man identified as Shah Nawaz Sandeela, dressed in lawyer’s uniform was found wandering on the premises of district courts.

On suspicion, he approached the suspect and asked him to prove his identity. The suspect claimed to be a member of the bar association which was proved as wrong on the occasion.
