Shehbaz says respondent playing delaying tactics

Upholding the objection of the Registrar Office, the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s plea he had filed against constant delay in trial proceedings on the defamation suit he had filed against Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Registrar Office had objected to Shehbaz's plea that the petitioner should approach the forum concerned first. Petitioner Shehbaz Sharif made respondents to PM Khan and the relevant judge (an additional district and sessions judge) who was conducting a trial on a defamation suit which petitioner had filed against PM Khan over his alleged false, malicious and baseless statements which according to petitioner tarnished his image.

The petitioner in his suit had sought recovery of Rs10 billion as damages. Shehbaz Sharif, in his petition he filed in the LHC, contended that they made repeated requests before respondent an additional district and sessions judge to proceed expeditiously have remained in vain. The judge concerned has even not allowed arguments on the applications filed by the petitioner that relate to the closure of the right to file a written statement by PM Khan and also to try and conduct the subject suit on a day to day basis. He contended that around 83 proceedings were conducted in the suit out of which more than 60 times the respondent had sought adjournment through different tactics.
