Trump hopes Meghan Markle runs for president, and not for the reasons you think

Former US president dropped hints about how he believes that could help him return to the White House sooner

On Tuesday, former US President Donald Trump said that he is “not a fan” of Meghan Markle but he is hoping she launches her rumoured 2024 presidential run.

When Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo asked Trump what would happen if Prince Harry’s American spouse actually runs for president, he said he’d be motivated to run for president even more.

“Well, I hope that happens because if that happened, then I think I’d have an even stronger feeling towards running,” Trump said. “I’m not a fan of hers,” he added. “When she talks about the Royal family and the Queen... I happen to think, I know the Queen, as you know. I’ve met with the Queen and I think the Queen is a tremendous person. And I’m not a fan of Meghan's.”

Markle, 39, is reportedly networking with the Democrats and eying her own potential path to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, following her interview with Oprah Winfrey on CBS last week. In the interview, she had claimed the Royal family was unsupportive and racist.

Now, Trump has said that he will make up his mind on a presidential run after the 2022 midterm elections.

Markle opposed Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and by default, seemed to endorse Biden in a campaign video with her husband. Trump had taken a jibe at the former Royal’s stance during a White House coronavirus briefing too, saying “I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it.”

Trump had previously also sided with Queen Elizabeth during the so-called #Megxit. He tweeted last year, “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen and the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now, they have left Canada for the US.

However, the US will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”
