The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices to and summoned top officials of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) over the cancellation of bronze medals of two wrestlers.
The court issued notices to the PSB director-general, PWF president and secretary on the petition of wrestlers Muhammad Umar and Muhammad Suleman. Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri heard the petition on Tuesday.
The petitioner's lawyer told the court that both wrestlers won bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games 2020 held in India. He maintained that both sportsmen participated on personal expenses in the Commonwealth Games as PWF was not granted visas.
PSB wrote a letter to the management of the Commonwealth Games for the cancellation of their medals. Citing the letter, the counsel stated that PSB said the wrestlers did not represent Pakistan in the event. However, the Commonwealth Games management did not entertain the letter, he added.
The lawyer pleaded with the court to stop the board from cancelling medals earned by the wrestlers in the international event.
The court issued notice to the respondents and summoned them in person in the first week of April.
