CJP unhurt following accident near Rashakai

Justice Gulzar was on his way to Kohat when the accident occurred

ISLAMABAD:

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed was said to have remained unhurt following an accident on Friday near Rashakai, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

According to reports, the CJP was en route Kohat, for the funeral prayers of apex court judge Justice Yahya Afridi's father, when the accident occurred.

It could not be confirmed if the vehicle was CJP's or some other car part of his convoy.

However, the CJP remained unhurt and, according to reports, had reached his home in Islamabad safely.

As per initial information, Justice Gulzar's car was hit by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

Omer Khan Afridi

SC judge Justice Yahya Afridi's father Omer Khan Afridi passed away peacefully on Thursday.

Remembered as an outstanding civil servant, Omer Khan Afridi had previously served as the chief secretary for KP and later an interior minister.

His funeral prayers were to take place around 3pm in his native village of Babari Banda, in district Kohat, KP.

CJP's condolence

In a statement issued a day ago, the CJP and other honourable judges of the SC expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Justice Afridi's father.

The judge's extended their heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to the members of the bereaved family of the departed soul.

"They prayed to Almighty Allah to shower His blessings upon the departed soul and to give patience to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity (Ameen)," the statement further read.
