Bilawal claims PDM giving 'government tough time'

Says democracy to prevail in the country once again after Senate elections

LAHORE:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Wednesday that the opposition was giving the government a tough time.

While addressing the media after reaching Lahore, the PPP chairperson said that after Senate elections are conducted, democracy will prevail in the country once again.

“The difficult time facing democracy will cease once again... after Yousuf Raza Gilani wins the Senate polls,” he added.

The PPP chairman thanked everyone who supported his party and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) saying, “We are working day and night for this country and its prosperity”

Bilawal also reminded of the PDM’s march towards the capital, scheduled to be held in the month of March.

He further said that all parties under the PDM's banner are united and will remain so even after the Senate polls have been conducted.

“It is in the interest of everyone that democracy prevails,” he maintained.

Speaking about the prime minister, the PPP chairmain said, “Imran Khan has used NAB against the opposition, and not just the opposition but also against members of his own party.”

He further stressed on the importance of institutions remaining impartial and neutral. “We should welcome an institution playing a neutral role as much as we dislike it when it doesn't", Bilawal added.

“We want the Charter of Democracy to be implemented in the country,” he said.

“Whether its inflation, unemployment or poverty, Pakistan is currently facing the highest number of problems in the region,” he said while further criticising the ruling party’s performance.

“This historic failure by the government can only be addressed through political means and can only have a political solution,” Bilawal asserted.

When asked about the opposition’s plans for the future, the PPP chairman said, “Our short-term goal is to remove this puppet government from power and our long-term goal is to establish democracy and rule of law in Pakistan.”
