By-polls for three seats of Sindh, Balochistan assemblies conclude

PPP, MQM in a tough fight for Malir seat; PPP, PTI battle it out in Sanghar

KARACHI:

Polling for three seats of the Sindh and Balochistan assemblies in the constituencies of Malir, Sanghar, and Pishin concluded at 5pm on Tuesday. 

The seats had fallen vacant after the demises of Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Ghulam Murtaza Baloch and Jam Madad Ali and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl 's (JUI-F) Syed Faza Agha.

The elections were held for PS-88 Malir 2, PS-43 Sanghar, PB-20 Pishin seats.

According to reports, the voting was carried out smoothly, though the candidates have expressed their concerns over its 'slow pace'. Incidents of violence were reported from Malir however. 

In the Malir constituency, PPP's Yousuf Baloch, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Jan Sher Junejo and Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Sajid Ahmed are in the run for the seat, but the actual electoral battle is said to be between the PPP and MQM.

In Sanghar, a total of seven candidates are contesting the polls, with a rigorous competition expected between PPP's Jam Shabbir Ali and PTI's Mushtaq Junejo.

In Pishin, the ruling party's Balochistan Awami Party's Asmatullah Tareen and JUI-F's Syed Azizullah Agha are expected to have a tough fight for the said seat.
