Challan books of 27 wardens sealed in Rawalpindi

This relates to challans issued for violation of traffic rules by the Rawalpindi CTP

RAWALPINDI:

The challan books of 27 traffic wardens, including some senior wardens, have been sealed and final inquiry has been initiated for departmental action as some serious irregularities pertaining to a disparity in the collection of fines and amounts received have been detected in the Rawalpindi City Traffic police, said an official the other day.

This relates to challans issued for violation of traffic rules by the Rawalpindi CTP, he added,

According to sources privy to the matter, during an internal audit of City Traffic Police Rawalpindi, it was alleged that tampering and misappropriation of collected funds has come to the fore.

To this end, complaints have been made to senior officers regarding alleged corruption committed by wardens. Some wardens were also suspended following the complaints.

It has also come to light that wardens were working in the streets of the city who had a chequered past.

It is has been reliably learned that Chief Traffic Officer Rai Mazhar Iqbal, who has recently assumed charge of his post has passed orders to close challan books of 27 wardens including that of a rank inspector, a senior traffic warden, including a woman, involved in the allegations.
