LAHORE:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that the entire justice system was being pressured to save the ‘incompetent’.

While speaking to the media before her departure to Daska, Maryam said that barring Justice Isa from hearing cases related to the prime minister is putting the judiciary’s credibility on the line.

“The justice system and the honour of the judges is being compromised to save the incompetent and corrupt,” Maryam stressed adding that the decision does not reflect well on the judiciary.

“It is not wise to jeopardize the entire judiciary and justice system to save one person,” she maintained.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Imran Khan, Maryam said that the person who was never even elected to run a union council has been given the charge of the country.

In response to a question regarding open balloting in the Senate, the PML-N vice president clarified that the party was not against the method of balloting but against the double standards set by PTI.

“We are not against the open ballot,” she underscored.

Reacting to DG ISPR Babar Iftikhar’s statement of the army not being involved in politics, Maryam stated that while she held Iftikhar in high regards, such statement would only be mocked.

“You should say things that the world would actually believe otherwise your reputation and your institution’s reputation will be tarnished,” she advised DG ISPR.

Maryam further stated that it was better to remain silent and not talk about the issue rather than give false statements.

Maryam Nawaz further said that a historic attempt to divide PML-N has been made but it didn’t work because they [the PLM-N] are an ideological party.

“If anyone leaves the party, the people will hold them accountable,” she said.
