ISLAMABAD:

In order to ensure road safety and streamline the flow of traffic in the capital the Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman on Monday formally inaugurated the `Safe Roads’ campaign to ensure a disciplined traffic system through the implementation of traffic rules and provide maximum security and safety to motorists.

The campaign was inaugurated at Islamabad Traffic Police Headquarters and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Farrukh Rasheed briefed the IGP about the steps to be taken under this drive.

The IGP said this campaign would be helpful not only to protect commuters but to ensure regulated traffic discipline.

He stressed that the foremost responsibility of the traffic police was the safety of motorists and to this end, strict checking of speeding will be monitored by cameras and also ensure fastening of seat belts by motorists.

The capital police chief directed action against tinted glass vehicles and those having fancy and non-registered number plates.

Consequently, squads of ITP would be deputed on main roads and avenues of the capital which would also create awareness among road users regarding risks of violating traffic rules including non-fastening of seat belts and use of mobile phones while driving.

Big screens would be installed at major entry points of the capital to educate citizens about traffic rules and banners would be placed in various areas seeking coordination and cooperation of road users for the success of the campaign.

The ongoing education programmes of ITP would be further improved following this campaign and media tools including social media, ITP FM Radio 92.4 would be also used for effective advertisement and promotion of this campaign.
