‘Smart’ lockdown imposed in six localities

19 more succumb to coronavirus during past 24 hours

LAHORE:

Following a surge in coronavirus cases, local administration has decided to impose smart lockdown in various areas of the provincial capital on Tuesday.

Selected areas and streets of the DHA Phase-III and V, Badian Road, Faisal Town, Allama Iqbal Town and Wahga Town have been sealed owing to spread in the pandemic. The decision to impose smart lockdown was made on Monday but so far hardly citizens are following SOPs or obeying smart lockdown orders. Neither police nor local administration is available in these areas to implement health authorities’ instructions.

Latest data released by the Coronavirus Monitoring Room of the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (PSHD) showed that as many as 412 new coronavirus cases were reported across Punjab during past 24 hours (until 09:00 am).

The PSHD has highlighted that total 19 people lost their lives owing to coronavirus during past 24 hours after which total number of coronavirus related deaths have reached 4,919. So far over three million coronavirus tests have been conducted in the province and around 148,496 people have recovered from the viral disease.

The data indicated that the total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab have soared to 161,347.

Data showed that the highest number of 188 coronavirus cases were reported in Lahore followed by Gujrat 60, Faisalabad 28, Rahim Yar Khan 21, Rawalpindi 19, Jhang 12, Okara 10, Toba Tek Singh and Bahawalpur nine each, Jhelum eight, Gujranwala seven, Sialkot six, Sahiwal five, Sheikhupura, Multan and Khanawal four each, Attock, Hafizabad, Vehari, Muzaffarghar and Pakpatan two each and Nankana Sahib, Narowal, Mandi Bahudin, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Lodhran and Bhakhar one each.
