RAWALPINDI:

Complying with the directives of the Punjab government to eliminate the menace of encroachment, the Rawalpindi administration on Monday conducted an anti-encroachment drive in the vicinity of Bhabra Bazaar and the Gordon College and retrieved land worth millions of rupees.

According to details, land grabbers had established a strong foothold in the area and had built a boundary wall on three kanals of residential plots worth Rs350 million which was originally owned by the state.

The land mafia, with the assistance of unscrupulous elements, had even sold some plots on the land while the suspects allegedly enjoyed political support too.

However, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq foiled efforts to sabotage the anti-encroachment operation.

Further, the district administration also recovered 14 Marla land owned by the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) worth Rs150 million. Heavy machinery was also used in the operation.

The RMC has managed to retain control of its lawful property.

Meanwhile, the administration is compiling records of calls made to people on the site while closed-circuit camera (CCTV) camera footages have also been obtained.

This is being done so as to trace the accomplices of the land grabbers.
