The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) on Monday directed provincial and district administrations to proactively monitor prices of chicken and edible oil in order to ensure smooth supply at fair prices across the country.
An NPMC meeting was held to review the price trend of essential commodities, especially wheat flour, eggs, chicken, sugar and edible oil during last week. Ministry of Finance secretary briefed NPMC about the weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) that increased 0.5%, according to a statement issued by the finance ministry.
The committee observed a decline in prices of wheat, sugar, tomato, onion, eggs and potato during the week.
Chief secretaries of provincial governments updated NPMC about the availability of sufficient stocks of wheat and average per day release by provinces which was stable throughout the country.
NPMC also directed Balochistan food secretary and Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) MD to make immediate arrangement for lifting 20,000 tons of wheat from Passco to ensure steady supply of wheat flour in the province.
NPMC urged the provincial governments and departments concerned for making coordinated efforts to stave off hoarding and to ensure uninterrupted supply of basic commodities at affordable prices.
