ISLAMABAD:

A builder and developer arrested under the clause three of Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) and sent to jail for three months has challenged the action in the Islamabad High Court.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah will hear the case on Monday (today) regarding arrest and internment of Chaudhry Abdul Rehman, owner of private housing society Ghauri Town. Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat had ordered the police to detain Rehman under 3MPO.

Challenging the order in the court, Rehman has filed a petition against his detention saying that cases are false.

He said that he is a law abiding citizen and a businessman who regularly pays taxes however he has been framed in false cases on pretext of his adversaries.

He said that detention under three MPOs on the basis of FIR alone does not fall under the category. The petition sought annulment of order of detention of the Deputy Commissioner for three months and his release from prison.

Rehman was transferred to Adiala Jail for three months for which a notification was issued by DC Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat.

The notification said that seve cases were registered against Rehman including possession and display of illegal arms, threats to life, harassment, and land grabbing.

The decision was made in the public interest and in view of maintaining the law and order situation, the DC had said.
