A security camera record has indicated that a suspect in police custody ended his life by hanging himself.
After the arrested robber Hamza’s death, police officials had said the suspect had committed suicide and they had no role in the incident.
Hamza, 27, a resident of Kirri Jamindaan, was arrested in a case of a robbery lodged in New Multan police station under section 392 of Pakistan Penal Code.
An accomplice of the deceased who had a criminal record of at least five cases has also been arrested by the police.
The police said the body of Hamza was found hanging in New Multan police station. The CPO had appointed SP Gulgasht Dr Raza Tanveer for an inquiry into the incident. According to sources, the suspect was arrested for a robbery near a bakery on the night between February 3 and 4.
The suspect falsely identified himself as Amjad Tanveer at the time of his arrest. But when his real name, Hamza, came to light, it was revealed that he also had a criminal history of six such incidents, the police said.
CCTV footage of the police station revealed that the suspect tore the bedsheet and went to the bathroom three times. The third time, he made a rope from the sheet and hanged himself.
