Six of a family perish in Mian Channu crash

CM Buzdar seeks report of accident from authorities

At least six members of a family were killed in a tragic road accident on Mohsinwal Jandiali Road in the suburbs of Mian Channu when a speeding car lost control and rammed into a tree.

The man who was driving the vehicle, his wife and a son died on the spot. Rescue 1122 sources said a tyre of the vehicle burst due to speeding and the car hit a tree.

The family was travelling to Mohsinwal. Six people, Malik Eid Mohammad, his wife Razia Bibi, sons Saifullah and Abdullah, Saifullah’s wife Mariam Bibi and granddaughter one-year-old Aima while Muqaddas Bibi was severely injured.

Rescue 1122 shifted her to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Mian Channu in critical condition from where she was referred to Nishtar Hospital Multan where she died.

Police said Eid Mohammad was on his way to Chak 105 15L Nijari with his family to attend his son’s engagement ceremony when the accident took place about five kilometres from his village. Rescue 1122 reached the spot and retrieved the bodies from the car that had been badly damaged after the accident.

A large number of people from nearby Chakuk reached the spot after the accident. Police said the locals stole the earrings of the dead women and took cash and mobile phones from the pockets of the men.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed deep sense of sorrow over the death of six family members of in the accident and extended sympathies to the heirs. He has also sought a report from the administration.

Meanwhile, in Dijkot, four people, including two teenage sisters, were killed in two traffic accidents while a woman was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital. Police reached the spot and started the operation.

The driver of a speeding tractor-trolley, heading towards 208 RB Chhoti Nehar from Canal Road area of Saddar Police Station, hit a motorcycle carrying 18-year-old Zohaib, a resident of Chak 226, along with his close relatives six-year-old Sehar, daughter Ilyas, threeyear-old Sawera, daughter Elias and their mother 21-year-old Saima, wife of Ilyas.

As a result of the accident, Sawera and Sehar died on the spot.

While Zohaib and Saima were shifted to the Civil Hospital after medical aid where Zohaib succumbed to his injuries while Saima Bibi’s condition was said to be out of danger.

Sadar police handed over the three bodies to their heirs after taking necessary action.

Meanwhile, a speeding car hit a 55-yearold unidentified man near Samundari Road Mandi Quarter while crossing the road. As a result, he died on the spot.

Police said the deceased was a drug addict who fell in front of a car and died. The police shifted the body to the hospital and started the operation. Deaths in road accidents are rampant in Punjab due to reckless driving.

In June, last year, at least six members of a family who were going to attend a Valima ceremony were killed when a van caught fire after an accident on the motorway near Gojra. The deceased included two children and a woman, while 10 people, including six children, were injured. They were admitted to the Allied Hospital.

Rescue 1122 teams had to cut the vehicle to retrieve the bodies after extinguishing the fire. The bodies were charred by the fire. Rescue officials handed them over to the police.
