Pet shop owners ordered to renew licences

Owners of pet shops have been asked to renew their trade licences before February 10 to avoid legal action.

Rawalpindi Wildlife Department has decided to launch an operation against people dealing in pet birds, animal and fish with either no or expired licences, officials said on Monday.“Action against pet shop owners working without or with expired permits will commence on February 10,” District Wildlife Officer (DWO) Rizwana Aziz.

The main clusters of pet stores and accessories are on Alam Khan Road, Kurry Road, Committee Chowk, in Pirwadhai Colony, near Asghar Mall. Moreover, pet shops are also situated in Sadiqabad and Gulzar-e-Quaid.DWO Aziz said that the licences of pet shops have expired on December 31 and a week’s deadline has been given to the vendors for renewal.The officials of the wildlife department will start checking licences of pet shops from February 10. They will check for pet stores working with expired licences and confiscate the birds, animals and fish.
