ISLAMABAD:

The apex development body of the federal capital has banned dumping untreated sewage in the streams crisscrossing the city. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) said on Monday that it has started taking action against illegal sewerage connections and direct opening of sewerage lines in natural nullahs. In the first phase notices and challans have been handed over to the owners of the properties from where untreated sewer is spewing into the once freshwater streams. CDA said it will disconnect illegal sewerage lines in the next phase. The work on cleaning of 30 main-trunk sewerage lines is also underway. The CDA sewerage department has started repair and restoration of city’ sewerage trunk line. In this regard, the work on 30 trunk lines out of total 42 in Sector I-9 has started. Sewerage lines were repaired at eight different points to direct flow of wastewater towards Sewerage Treatment Plant.
