Airline sustained biggest loss of Rs230.5b during PML-N govt

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) sustained a cumulative losses of nearly Rs500 billion in the past 15 years, with the tenure of the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) being the worst for the national flag carrier, the National Assembly was informed on Friday.

The house was apprised of the financial situation of the airlines during the tenures of the previous governments in a report. It said that said that PIA incurred a total loss of Rs499.75 billion in the last 15 years, including operational losses to the tune of Rs214 billion.

According to the report, the national airline suffered the biggest loss of Rs230.50 billion during the PML-N government. Before that it sustained a loss of 122 billion during the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government.

Since Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came into the government, the airline sustained a loss of more than 112.3 billion. During these two and half years, the airline also sustained operational losses of Rs31 billion.

According to the report, during the government of the PML-Quaid-e-Azam the PIA suffered loss of Rs34.87 including Rs20.67 billion operational losses.
