RAWALPINDI:

The land mafia is once again active in the federal capital as the plots belonging to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) affectees are being bought and sold, using fake documents, The Express Tribune learnt on Tuesday.

According to sources, the previously cancelled plots in Model Town Humak were put up on sale by the land mafia while encroachments were also reported on state-owned land in the area. The affectees have alleged the Sihala police of turning a blind eye to the issue, saying some commercial plots are being sold as well.

The residents of the area informed that land grabbers produced fake documents for the plots previously cancelled by the CDA in bid to sell them off. They further mentioned that land abandoned by the CDA affectees is also being sold illegally as reports of construction work have also emerged on multiple plots.

Sources alleged that the CDA staff is in cahoots with the land mafia as they are tampering with records to cover their own tracks in case of an inquiry while the buyers of these plots are unaware of the criminal activity behind it.

The locals demanded that Prime Minister Imran and the CDA chairman take notice of the issue. It should be noted that the IHC had directed to crackdown against land mafia in the city and ensure recovery of illegally occupied state-owned land in December, 2020.
