Opposition to use resignation option at right time, insists Maryam

PML-N leader says govt came to opposition begging for cooperation, but was not responded to

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz insisted on Monday that opposition parties, under the banner of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), will use the option to resign from parliament "at the right time".

Speaking to the media before the start of the party's meeting, the PML-N leader stated that party supremo Nawaz Sharif had sent a message for all parliamentary parties.

“I have brought a special message of Nawaz Sharif for the parliamentary parties,” she said.

"Nawaz Sharif's message is that the current government has completely failed on every front," Maryam stated.

“The condition of this country's people is deplorable,” the PML-N vice president said, adding that the opposition has all options available.

Maryam further said that the incumbent government came to beg from the opposition for cooperation, but did not get any response.

“Where have electricity and petrol prices reached?” she questioned as a means to criticise the current rate of inflation.

The PML-N leader's comments regarding the opposition's 'options' come at a time when the opposition's 11-party alliance appears to be unable to develop a consensus over a plan of action regarding taking it's anti-government campaign forward.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Information Minister Senator Shibli Faraz also commented on the 'rift'.

Qureshi stated that the disagreement between Maryam Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif over resigning from assemblies was now out in the open, while Bilawal Bhutto and Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman also seemed divided on how to lead the ongoing movement.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz observed that the alliance of opposition parties was pursuing conflicting narratives.

In a tweet, the minister said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's insistence on the no-confidence motion, Pakistani Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal's qualms on it and party's Vice President Maryam Nawaz's stress on the long march clearly indicated a rift in the alliance.
