Man shot dead by Faisalabad police for not pulling over, four cops held

CPO holds the personnel responsible for opening fire at the unarmed citizens in report sent to IG Punjab.

FAISALABAD:

Four personnel of Faisalabad police were arrested on Thursday after they opened fire on a vehicle which failed to pull over at a checkpost, killing one and injuring three others. 

The citizen, identified as Waqas, and three others were fired upon in the Dijkot area of the district. Subsequently, Assistant Sub-Inspector Shahid Manzoor and three other personnel involved in the incident were apprehended by the law enforcement agency.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the personnel also resorted to desecrating the body of the deceased following the firing.

As per the report sent by Capital City Officer to Inspector General Police Punjab, an initial probe has proved that the personnel were at fault as they exceeded their powers and ignored the rules by opening fire at the unarmed vehicle occupants.

Earlier this month, 22-year-old Osama Satti was shot dead by Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) men in the G-10 area of ​​Islamabad. The personnel were patrolling in the area when they asked Osama to stop, and indiscriminate fire at him when he didn't. The killing invited widespread criticism, with social media users calling the police out over the apparent brutal act.
