Father apprehended for marrying off 11-year-old

Police have registered a case against eight suspects

Police have arrested the father and marriage registrar for marrying an 11-year-old girl to a young man.

The police have taken the girl into custody and registered a case against eight accused under various provisions.

The case has been filed by Tariq Shehzad, a resident of 602GB, Tehsil Tandlianwala, which states that his brother Nobahar had asked him to raise his daughter. “On January 16, my brother came home and took the minor away from our home.”

He married his daughter with 28-year-old Shehzad, son of Mehboob through Maulvi Shafiq with Imran Khan, Mohammad Ali, Farid and Fauji Mehboob as witnesses in the ceremony.

Bahlak police took immediate action and arrested the marriage registrar and the girl’s father. The police also took the girl into custody. A case has been registered against the remaining accused under the Children's Marriage Act and started a search for them.
