ISLAMABAD:

The state-owned housing body again told lawmakers that it will deliver the Bhara Kahu housing scheme in next two years.

Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) had said the same thing in February 2020 about Bhara Kahu Green Enclave-I.

People who had paid for plots in the housing scheme launched by the government were waiting for their piece of land since 2009. The scheme was launched in 2009, but because of litigation and dispute between government and contractor, the project could not move forward.

A sub-committee of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Housing and Construction was informed by the ministry concerned that the plots in Bhara Kahu Green Enclave-I will be developed and handed over to the allottees by 2022.

The sub-committee of the Standing Committee of the NA chaired by Iqbal Muhammad Ali was held on Tuesday.

Housing Ministry Secretary Imran Zaib, Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) Director General (DG) Wasim Hayat Bajwa and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

The secretary told the panel that the development work was in full swing. DG Bajwa told the panel that plots in Bhara Kahu Green Enclave-I would be developed and handed over to the owners by 2022. He added that there were 3,280 plots of different categories in the housing scheme.

Further, the committee was briefed that the infrastructure work of all roads in Sector G-13 was completed. It was informed that street lights and filtration plants would be installed soon along with the construction of playgrounds.

The build-up property of Sectors G-14/2 and G-14/3 was being awarded in order to dispense the plots to the allottees at the earliest, the panel was apprised. The committee directed that the matter be resolved expeditiously so that the owners get their plots.

Moreover, FGEHA DG said that the layout plan of sectors F-14 and F-15 was in the final stages while Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) will start construction work soon.

Briefing the sub-committee on apartment projects, DG said that the development work on all projects was underway in full swing.

Regarding the water situation in Sector G-13, FGEHA DG said that the water problem would be resolved as soon as possible in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Caught in red tape

FGEHA has started only five housing schemes in the federal capital during the past decade, but all of them have been mired in red-tape, litigation and other issues.

These schemes include Green Enclave-I, Green Enclave-II in Bhara Kahu, Thallian Housing Scheme, Park Road Housing Scheme and housing projects in sectors F-14 and F-15.
