The Sindh High Court sought the progress report and issued an interim order on Monday for the case pertaining to large-scale illegal occupation of Indus River canal system’s land.
Sindh AG infomed the court that the anti-encroachment drive has been initiated. The counsel further stated that a progress report will be submitted in 15 days and encroachments from the irrigation department’s land will be cleared within six months. In its interim order, the court approved the government’s proposal to remove encroachments in three stages. According to the court’s directives, encroachments should be removed from canals, mine branches and dams by February 28 while encroachments from the irrigation department’s land are to be removed by April 30 in the second phase and residential structures are to be razed in the third phase by June 30.
