Over 1,400 new Covid cases, 14 deaths reported

Another 14 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Sindh on Friday, when 1,443 new Covid-19 cases emerged in the province, according to a statement issued by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The CM said that following these development, the Covid-19 death toll in the province had climbed to 3,769 and the infection tally had risen to 233,369. Of the new cases, 1,140 were detected in Karachi. Besides, he said, 1,492 more Covid-19 patients had regained health, lifting the total number of coronavirus recoveries in Sindh to 212,266. Now, 17,361 patients are under treatment in the province, with 16,402 in home isolation, 13 in isolation centres and 946 admitted to hospitals, the CM said, adding that the condition of 864 patients was critical and 102 were on ventilators.

Cops infected

Besides, 489 cops in the Sindh Police tested positive for Covid-19 over the past week. As result, the number of total policemen who have been afflicted by the disease has exceeded 5,000. According to a Sindh Police spokesperson, 647 cops were under treatment for the infection in the province as of Friday. Thus far, 4,377 have recovered from the infection, he added.
