Lahore based socialite, Maleeha Akram decodes her style. Mother to two young boys, Maleeha shares how her style evolved over the years and how to nail being classy and chic at the same time
Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage
How would you describe your body type?
I’m pear shaped and have a lot of tendency to gain weight if I don’t watch my diet.
Has your body type changed over the years?
From a banana shape to pear, yes. I have had extreme phases. From changing my diet and lifestyle to a different dietitian it has been a long journey.
How has your style changed over the years?
Growing up flipping through fashion magazines with unattainable beauty standards and impractical fashion choices it has definitely evolved over the years. I’ve embraced every stage of life with confidence and ownership. From wearing a basic t-shirt and jeans back in college to trying out new cuts, styles experimenting with colours it has only gotten better. I want to wear it all but I make sure whatever I’m experimenting with just compliments my body.
How do you dress according to your body type?
I love wearing dresses! Pleated skirts hide any stomach insecurity I might be having a matching set of loungewear which sits comfortably on my body. I love flares and heels which give me so much extra confidence.
Which silhouette suits your body the most?
I can carry flared pants/jeans a simple top paired with a blazer that actually makes me feel like a real powerhouse.
In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here?
An outfit that is tight or loose all over gives a very imbalanced look. Think proportions, do not mix tight with tight, go looser on the top and vice versa and pairing flared pants with flats make a look very unpolished.
What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why?
I don’t like body hugging clothes; it gives a very unflattering look. I doubt I shy away from anything but a sleeveless outfit doesn’t compliment my body structure too well neither does a belt at my waist!
