KARACHI:

Citizens have raised concerns over the derelict condition of a pedestrian bridge installed near Aladin Park on Rashid Minhas Road, expressing fear that if it was not repaired, it would continue pose a threat to lives and safety of those using it.

Iron rails on either side of the bridge have broken and stolen, complain citizens, urging the relevant authorities to take immediate measures to repair the bridge.

"They have put up just a few iron pipes, not longer than four feet in height, on the bridge," pointed out one of the concerned citizen. "But the bridge is used by scores, including children accompanied by families visiting the park, every day and in this condition, is a threat to their safety."

According to area residents, the bridge has been in a bad shape for years, with the relevant authorities, seemingly, turning a blind eye to it.

"Once, there used to be iron pipes on either side of it but they either broke or were stolen," one of the residents told The Express Tribune.

He added that the administration had not paid any attention towards the structure much in need of it.

"We pay taxes and yet the government has failed to address an issue as obvious as the repair of a pedestrian bridge," lamented another citizen.

Citizen have urged the city administration to at least fix faults in the bridge's decks, so as to reduce the chances of a mishap.
